Joseph Pilates developed Pilates as a fitness system in the early 20th century.
He designed 34 original exercises that today are broken down, built up and adapted for teaching to a general audience of mixed ability.
Alan Herdman is one of the foremost experts in modern Pilates, he says:
“Pilates is a very precise, intelligent exercise system, where the message is ‘Quality, not Quantity’. It’s a way of learning how your body works that gives you the tools to improve your own posture, appearance and physical wellbeing.”
…and he’s right!
Millions of people all over the world feel the benefits of Pilates, whether they are looking to combat the negative impact of modern lifestyle on the body, to complement their other sporting activities or simply for the pleasure of Pilates itself.
We are all individual and as such have natural imbalances in our bodies, Pilates can help you to recognise and overcome these, to mean that you are better equipped for daily life and the things that you love to do.
